  • Position Overview

    Services for the UnderServed (SUS) is a New York-based nonprofit organization that provides housing and support services to 25,000 individuals and their families living in New York City and Long Island.  SUS believes every New Yorker has the right to lead a life of purpose.

    Job Functions

    • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing counseling to participants of an intensive residential treatment program.
    • Engage participants in individual and group substance abuse counseling.
    • Facilitate Evidence Based Practice Groups
    • Document and maintain records as required and according to agency and OASAS regulations.
    • Provide crisis intervention services and if necessary, refer clients for psychiatric assessment
    • Work with clients in developing treatment plans and identifying community based referrals for client to continue treatment upon move out
    • Maintain updated information about detoxification, rehabilitation, residential treatment and outpatient services
    • Attend and participate in regular staff training and scheduling meetings
    • Maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding all participants’ information
    • Complete incident reports in accordance with policy and procedures ; Report any actual or suspected abuse/neglect in accordance with policy and procedure; Ensure the safety and well-being of participants on a daily basis
    • Understand and follow the agency chain of communication
    • Work cooperatively with other team members to carry out the program goals and objectives for each client; Understand and implement the agency’s philosophy, policies and mission Understand and implement the agency’s philosophy, policies and mission
    • Comply with all SUS Employee Policies, Procedures, and Protocols, SUS Corporate Compliance Policies, and NYS Dept. of Social Services Rules, Regulations, and Statutes.
    • Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
    • A schedule that includes evenings and weekends will be required

    Qualifications

    EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED:
    •Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred.

    •NYS CASAC certification required.
    •Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to assist those of diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, ages, and sexual preferences.
    Preference is given to those who have experience working on a multi- disciplinary team and/or previous experience with substance abuse population

    •Bilingual preferred.
