    Services for the UnderServed (SUS) is a New York-based nonprofit organization that provides housing and support services to 25,000 individuals and their families living in New York City and Long Island.  SUS believes every New Yorker has the right to lead a life of purpose.

    Position Overview:

    • Prepares and conducts scheduled educational groups addressing interviewing, daily living and interpersonal skill development, conduct mock interviewing sessions with clients.
    • Responsible to assist individuals challenged by mental illness and/or substance abuse with learning job skills that will prepare them to enter the work force
    • Coordinates community referrals and follows-up on initial assessment and recommendations.
    • Network with the business community to assist with maintaining and developing relationships to promote job development and placement for individuals.
    • Establishes a regular pattern of contacts with clients that ensure that clients receive follow-up on vocational, educational and employment goals. Provide supportive counseling as needed.
    • Maintains all appropriate documentation through case notes, assessments and reports. Maintains accurate and timely paperwork.
    • Participates in staff meetings and case conferences, schedule individual supervision and attends training/seminars in and outside of the agency.
    • Ability to establish trust and a rapport with mentally ill and/or substance abuse consumers, their families, or significant others.
    • Ability to design and conduct task focused groups.

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree with a major in the field of human services, social work, psychology or related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience in working with the substance abuse and homeless population.
    • General counseling and communication skills with good supervisory/leadership skills a must.
