Position Overview

Services for the UnderServed is seeking a Social Worker to ensure a normal living environment free from abuse with respect to individuals’ rights, wants, and needs. The ideal social worker will have a passion for advocating on behalf of others, have great communication skills, patience and a desire to enhance the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in Semi-Annual and Annual evaluations of the individuals for the purpose of monitoring and follow up of individualized habilitation.
  • Providing counseling to individuals regarding their rights, wants and needs.
  • Represent and advocate for individuals when dealing with governmental agencies regarding Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, etc.
  • Providing in-service training to staff regarding all social development issues, incident reporting and clients rights.

Services for the UnderServed (SUS) is a New York-based nonprofit organization that provides housing and support services to 25,000 individuals and their families living in New York City and Long Island.  SUS believes every New Yorker has the right to lead a life of purpose.

  • MSW and 2 years’ experience in the field of Developmental Disabilities. LMSW preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to travel to several locations in Brooklyn/Manhattan.
