Position Overview:

The Substance Abuse Specialist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing counseling to participants of an intensive residential treatment program. The Specialist will engage program participants in individual and group substance abuse counseling and facilitate Evidence Based Practice groups. The Specialist will document and maintain records as required and according to agency and OASAS regulations. Responsibilities also include providing crisis intervention services, referrals for psychiatric assessments, working with clients in developing treatment plans and identifying community based referrals for continued treatment upon move out.

Qualifications

Requirements:

 

  • CASAC preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Working knowledge of addiction and relapse process, understanding of mental health and domestic violence issues.
  • Good group experience, ability to handle crisis situations
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as member of interdisciplinary team
  • At least two years’ work experience in addiction field in a residential setting
  • Bilingual a plus
