Position Overview

I. SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Substance Use Counselor provides substance use services and consultation as a member of a
mobile multi-disciplinary Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.

 

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for integrating dual-recovery treatment
• Works with both mental health and substance abuse in conjunction with the tasks of other team
members.
• Conducts assessments for substance abuse services
• Conducts treatments in conjunction with the other team members
• Responsibility for the recipients and for charting services
• Responsible portion or all of creating the service plan
• Responsible for ensuring revisions to the plan as the participant’s needs change
• Advocating for the rights and preferences of the participant whenever possible
• Will be on an on-call rotation and will back up the social worker
• Field work and travel is required
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

III. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field preferred.
Certified Substance Abuse and Alcoholism Counselor - Trainee (CASAC-T).
• Must have two or more years’ experience working with dually diagnosed individuals including the
delivery of integrated services.
• Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Word/Excel.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• NYS Driver’s license strongly preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
