Position Overview

  1. SCOPE OF ROLE:  

Carry out minor repairs and building maintenance throughout assigned areas of the facility. This 
includes but is not limited to; painting, plastering, repairing furniture, maintaining smoke detectors, 

and fire extinguishers. Responsible for exterior snow and ice removal as well as upkeep of the grounds.
This includes but is not limited to sidewalk maintenance, mowing grass, trimming shrubbery, 
maintaining landscaping, rodent removal, and all other aspects of the building exterior.  

 

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Conduct periodic building, dorm, and office inspections for dangerous and hazardous conditions, 

needed repairs, hygiene, and cleanliness. When necessary, assistance with building cleaning  
especially prior to routine inspections 

  • Conduct periodic inspections of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and sprinkler system to ensure 

equipment is working properly and in compliance with regulations. 

  • Maintain building maintenance tools and machinery to ensure that all items are in good working 

condition. 

 Assist with periodic boiler and water heater inspections to always ensure proper functioning.  

  • Assist in moving and storing program supplies, office furniture, office equipment, dorm furniture, 

consumer belongings, and other items in and around the facility when and where appropriate. 

  • Assist in interior decorating and refurbishing of assigned areas of the facility. 
  • Responsible for insect and bug extermination and rodent removal.
  • Drive agency vehicles. 
  • Must wear SUS maintenance uniform and must maintain uniform so that it is clean and presentable

at the start of each shift. 

  • Maintain CPR/ First Aid Certification.  
  • Complete other tasks as deemed necessary by the Program Director and/or Facility Manager 
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, group supervision, and trainings as needed. 
  • A work schedule that includes some weekend and evening hours will be required.
  • Comply with all SUS Employee Policies, Procedures, and Protocols, SUS Corporate Compliance 

Policies, and NYS Dept. of Social Services Rules, Regulations, and Statutes

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • At least two years of building maintenance experience in a large residential/institutional setting

working with special needs population required.  

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS 

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • NYS Driver’s License Preferred. 
  • Bi‐lingual English/Spanish speaking preferred.
