Position Overview

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Substance Use Counselor provides person-centered, recoveryoriented, traumainformed substance use counseling services, including integrated care for individuals with cooccurring conditions, within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). Services are delivered through multidisciplinary team collaboration and care coordination in compliance with SAMHSA CCBHC criteria and NYS OMH and OASAS regulations.    

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide outpatient substance use counseling using evidence-based practices.
  • Deliver integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions.
  • Conduct substance use screenings, assessments, and reassessments within scope of practice.
  • Contribute to and implement person-centered treatment plans, updating as participant needs change.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and care coordination activities.
  • Support crisis response, safety planning, and continuity of care, including participation in on-call rotation as assigned.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation in the EHR in accordance with OMH, OASAS, Medicaid, and CCBHC standards.
  • Advocate for participant rights, cultural responsiveness, and recovery‑oriented care.
  • Participate in required trainings, supervision, and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s required
  • CASAC 1 or CASAC 2
  • Must have one or more years’ experience working with dually diagnosed individuals including the delivery of integrated services
  • Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Proficient in MS Word/Excel
  • Ability to research material via the internet 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
