Position Overview

The Support Services functions at S:US are carried out by a team of professionals with diverse backgrounds who share deeply in the S:US mission. The Entitlements Department is looking for a self-starter with human services knowledge and experience. The selected candidate will be adaptable and organized in fast-paced, high intensity environment with the ability to manage competing priorities. This candidate will report to the Entitlements Manager and will be responsible for ensuring that clients are obtaining and maintaining benefits they are eligible for. Additionally, the Entitlements manager is responsible for maintaining city and federal government benefits by assisting them through the eligibility process.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Manage

  • Verify all consumers benefit entitlements eligibility upon admission into programs
  • Submit all applications: SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare recertification, redetermination, initial SSA application, SSA annual representative payee, reports, SSA continuing disability, HEAP and Public Assistance in-person in a timely manner
  • Manage consumers’ daily correspondence on behalf of consumer (received by S:US)
  • Keep and maintain an active file on present and new consumers
  • Manage Developmental Disabilities and Behavioral Health consumers current entitlements within agency’s internal databas

Monitor and Advocate

  • Escort consumers to various government and city agencies (Social Security Administration, HRA-Public Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP offices, etc.) with the 5 boroughs
  • Investigate and ensures resolution of all entitlements – including Medicaid, social security, HRA Public Assistance, SNAP, etc.  denials
  • Review and follow-up timely on consumers correspondence receive from various city and government agencies via phone, office visit, mail and/or fax
  • Required to travel to sites in and outside the organization within the 5 boroughs
  • Process appeals and pursues legal channels to obtain funding for consumers who have been denied entitlements
  • Represent consumer and agency at administrative hearings
  • Keep abreast of public policy issues and new developments in the field and communicate the same to management
  • Attend information trainings and seminars to remain current on trends and entitlements system changes 

Reporting

  • Inform appropriate internal departments and management of potential entitlements issues with consumer
  • Review and update Medicaid eligibility report weekly
  • Provide manager with all new consumers benefits status in a timely manner
  • Submit monthly Entitlements report to supervisor

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • High School Diploma/Equivalent
    • Minimum of 2 years experience in Medicaid, Supplemental Social Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Office of Temporary Disability Assistance (OTDA), SNAP, and HRA (public assistance) application process and regulations
    • Individuals with lived experience in obtaining Medicaid coverage and related entitlements are strongly encouraged to apply
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
    • A sincere desire and patience to help our consumers with their entitlements and benefits concerns.
    • Demonstrated experience in effective communication, organization and multitasking
    • Must be willing to:
      • Travel in all of the boroughs
      • Work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the department
