Position Overview

S:US Is seeking a Vocational Specialist for our families with children shelter located at 246 Echo Place Bronx, NY 10457.

 

Salary

Minimum: $40k/Yr.

Maximum: $42k/Yr.

                              

The Vocational Specialist will:

  • Conduct assessments interviews to elicit information relative to client’s skills, education, abilities and interest.
  • Identify barriers to employment, e.g. English as a Second Language (ESL), substance use disorder, mental health issues et al., and in collaboration with Case Manager makes appropriate referrals.
  • Assist engaged clients in the development of vocational educational service plans and monitors and facilitates implementation of same.
  • Document all counseling, assessment, testing and service plans in clients’ folder.
  • Implement and coordinate the EM Path economic mobility program
  • Maintain an active employment and vocational/educational training data bank and serves as program representative to all vocational/educational and employment placement service providers.
  • Provide career coaching/guidance and assists with resume/cover letter preparation, job search and filing applications.
  • Design and facilitate adult life skills workshops to include: budgeting, tenant behavior, how to maintain your home, and other related topics.
  • Develop direct job placement services through the development of program job bank.
  • Maintain tracking forms for job/skills training placements job retention, and reports as required.
  • Conduct vocational workshops.
  • Attend all training sessions and meetings as required.
  • Perform such other duties as may be required.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Program Director, designee or as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two years of applicable experience or a minimum of six years of applicable experience.
  • Knowledge of the complex interaction of multiple factors of homelessness, substance use disorder, mental health and domestic violence, with sensitivity to cultural and gender-specific issues with both individuals and families.
  • Knowledge of HRA, entitlements and homeless shelter system.
  • Knowledge of current practices in vocational education, labor market trends and employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors.
