Position Overview

The Sr. Substance Use Specialist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing counseling to participants of an intensive residential treatment program.  The Specialist will be responsible for integrating dual-recovery treatment working with both mental health and substance abuse in conjunction with the tasks of other team members.

 

Additionally the Sr. Substance Use Counselor will;

 

  • Responsible for integrating dual-recovery treatment
  • Works with both mental health and substance abuse in conjunction with the tasks of other team members. 
  • Conducts assessments for substance abuse services
  • Conducts treatments in conjunction with the other team members
  • Responsibility for the recipients and for charting services
  • Responsible portion or all of creating the service plan
  • Responsible for ensuring revisions to the plan as the participant’s needs change
  • Advocating for the rights and preferences of the participant whenever possible
  • Will be on an on-call rotation and will back up the social worker

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Services or related field required
  • Certification by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) as a Certified Substance Abuse and Alcoholism Counselor (CASAC) required
  • Valid Driver's License in New York State preferred
  • Must have experience working with dually diagnosed individuals including the delivery of integrated services
  • Able to commit to 70-90% field work, travel throughout the boroughs to provide services in the clients' home and other settings
